Final of my Advert

This is my final advert. I have decided to use a quote - underneath the title - to capture the audiences attention. I also think using white text on a black background makes the contrast stand out stronger. The use of colourings on the image makes the 'stitching' look darker. This effect means that the main attention is taken to the mouth - which is what I wanted to be the strongest part of the image. The stitching represents that the victim can't speak out. By using myself on the advert and using a shot which looks down on me, it portrays me as a victim myself. I chose to do this so I can then make out I can relate to the victims as I understand what has happened to them.

Developing My Advert

I had researched into advertisements, and found an avert for bullying. In the advert, a girl had her mouth zipped together. This gave off the impression that the victims can't speak out about bullying and they are scared if they do.

This is an advertising campaign for cybermentors. I have used this as my inspiration. I started off by having my friend take pictures of me. I did this as I wanted to use myself as the person in the advert. I want to portray my experiences and that I am a victim. Therefore, I have little make up on and the make up I do have on is very neutral. I also took a range of photos from different angles to see what looks best. I decided that a high angle shot looking down on me made me look small and that I was being looked down on by bullies. I also took it on a black background and made sure I had room for text - my shirt is white also and this makes the colours contrast. Like I said, I wanted to use this advert above as inspiration so I decided to keep my lips pressed together so that I can 'sew' them together on Photoshop. So far, I have created this. I will be adding text, and the C4 logo to the left.

Interviewees for my Documentary

For my documentary I want honest opinions. I didn't want to create a feel where it looks over-scripted. Therefore, I visited a Year 10 drama group and asked them take part in my documentary. I had previously sent out consent letters to ensure that they were able to participate, but those who didn't want to, didn't have too. I interviewed four students. I set out a few questions which they could answer, but I wanted their opinions. I asked them questions like "Why do you think people cyber bully?" and "Would you join a cyber bullying campaign?". I was able to get sensible answers. I also got cut-aways of the classroom which I can use to fill time. I asked Year 10's as I believe that they have gone through the hard part of the high school social ladder and they are nearly at the top. I wanted to see if any of them had had any experiences which I could use, but most of them hadn't been bullied online.

I also want to interview one of the technicians at school who keeps an eye on the computer systems within Smithdon. I was told there is a piece of software which searches the system to find if any bullying is going on. When students first got their e-mail accounts, they would send each other messages, occasionally using language which was inappropriate. However, they were able to block the messages with rude language in. But the technological kids of today worked out that by using TXT code, they could say things such as FU and sh*t. But now the school has managed to block any mail with these kinds of messages. I want to talk to the technician about his job and the software. I want to know whether he thinks that the software should become more available in schools nationwide?

A new direction.

Originally, I wanted to base my five minutes on one subject (just one storyline) and use music which wasn't very relevant. However, I have chosen to use more up-to-date, yet relevant music. I also want to include the opinions of students. I have decided to go against the conventions and not feature an expert. I will however feature the points and facts given to me by several campaigns.

My new music choices are (in this order):
Hometown Glory - Adele
Make You Feel My Love - Adele
Cooler Than Me - Mike Posner
Teenage Dream OR Firework - Katy Perry

All these song choices will be just the instrumental background music. As researched, some documentaries are drowned by the sound of a song and the interviews cannot be heard.

I have also decided to interview students at my school. This will give a realistic opinion on Cyberbullying and allow the audience to believe that it is a serious subject.

This new direction will include many more interviews and opinions. I will also interview a technician at my high school who controls the system and looks for cyber bullying within the school.

Brand Logo

When my documentary is introduced, I will need a simple yet effective logo which will capture the audiences attention. Designing the logo wasn't easy. I used www.dafont.com to select different fonts and texts. Choosing a range and then seeing what my potential audience prefer will mean that I shall be meeting the demand. I firstly looked at several fonts, using the title "Think before you click". This is my original title for my documentary, however, I have gone onto thinking of other possibilities. These are the eight fonts I looked at.

These fonts all have symbolic reasons. However, I chose to move away from the eerie fonts and the block colours and I am going to choose to use pixelated fonts. After searching, I chose to use Digital 7 and Handy. I have written "Think before" in Handy and "You click" in Digital 7.

However, this image looks rather plain. So, to add to the theme and make the image more interesting, I am going to add a cursor into the photo.

This isn't my final image though, this is just a draft. I have also used different titles and images. These are a selection of my ideas.

Target Audience

My target audience is going to be a wide range. I want to be able to aim it at parents who are concerned and the victims who need help. The main purpose of my documentary is to raise awareness of cyber bullying and the effects it has on some children. With some cases stretching to the extremes of suicide, I think parents should be more aware of what there child does on the internet. 85% of parents didn't know what cyber bullying was (when interviewed in 2009).

The other side of this is to raise awareness to the kids who use social networking and aren't aware of the dangers of paedophiles and bullies. With the internet becoming part of our lives more and more every day, it is becoming a place for good and evil. I want to be able to children how to protect themselves from these threats and what to do if it happens.

When looking a the target audience, I need to consider to socio-demographics of families and households in the UK.

I think the type of social persons watching my documentary will be social grade D and E. Because I believe in this ugly society we now live in, these are the people who do have to put up with bullying. However, I would say myself that I come from a middle-class (C1) background. I think bullying can happen to anyone, and with these grades, you could be bullied for being too rich or too poor.

If I were to create profiles for my target audience, they would be very different.

Profile A.)

A teenage girl, who is in her third year of high school. She has been bullied for years and doesn't like to speak up about it, afraid that someone will do something worse. She struggles through school and can't wait to get home. But the issue is, she enjoys checking Facebook and Twitter, but she gets bullied. This teenager wants to be able to find some guidance without 'telling on' the bully. I think my documentary would help her as she would be able to find out how she can sort it out, or if she just needs to talk to someone.

Profile B.)

A mother of three children, living in a council house. She is struggling with her husband at the moment and one of her daughters is finding life a struggle at school. But she doesn't know what to do? She needs to find out what happens, but with two other attention seeking children, she cannot give out her time equally. This poor women wants the best for her kid but doesn't know how she can help without getting her into more trouble with the bullies - she knows this as she was once bullied herself. Watching my documentary would mean she is able to see what she can do to help her child.
